Why is a standard meridian important for a country?

    We need a standard meridian because

    1. Standard Meridian is required to avoid the difference in time within the country.
    2. India has selected 82o30’ East longitude as its Standard Meridian because it passes centrally through India, hence equidistant from East and West.
    3. It is selected as Prime Meridian to avoid time lag of 2 hours from Arunachal Pradesh Gujarat. This time is the Indian Standard Time.
