Democracy is imperative since it give citizens equal prospects to facilitate in making laws, voting for leaders and protecting them through rights and laws which are in place. The main purposes for which people set-up democratic govt. are the promotion and protection of their interests, welfare and rights. Democracy necessitates that each person must be free to partake in the political community's self-govt.
Thus, democracy comprises 4 crucial elements: a political system for selecting and changing the govt. by way fair and free elections; the active partaking of individuals, as citizens, in civic and politics life; safeguarding of the rights of all citizens; and a rule of law, wherein the procedures and laws apply to all citizens equally.
