The two and fro motion of an object about its mean position is called oscillation.
A motion that repeats itself over and over again about its mean position, such that it remains confined within two well defined extreme positions on either side of the mean positionis called oscillatory motion. All oscillatory motions are periodic but all periodic motions are not oscillatory.
