Monomer of rayon is cellulose, which reacts carbon disulfide (CS2) and base (sodium hydroxide) to give a soluble polymer that can be converted into rayon. Polyester is made up of the monomer which is a combination of Ethane-1,2-diol and benzene-1,4-dicarboxylic acid (terephthalic acid). The polyesters have a wide number of uses depending upon the orientation of the different monomers present in the polymer. Nylon 6 is only made from one kind of monomer, a monomer called caprolactam. Nylon 6,6 is made from two monomers, adipoyl chloride and hexamethylene diamine.
