    On September 28, 1928, Scottish scientist Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin, now one of the world's leading antibiotic medications. Penicillin is an antibiotic; it kills disease-causing bacteria. The invention of penicillin was a milestone in the practice of medicine. It changed the way doctors treated diseases.
