a fold mountain is formed by compression of horizontal layers of rocks a simple fold mountain has downfold or valley call synclines or a fold or ridges called anticlines these are called young fold mountains as these were formed 60 to 70 million years ago there are other mountains in similar manner but much earlier in time these are called old fold mountains as these are formed at 300 to 400 million years ago
