1. Under Lord Hastings ( Governor General from 1813 to 1823) a new policy paramountacy was initiated. 2. Now the company claimed that its authority was paramount or Supreme. 3. Hence its power was paramount greater than that of Indian states. 4. In order to protect its intrest it was justified in annexing or threating to annex any Indian kingdom.
