    Petroleum is known as black gold because it is in black in colour and it's value is precious as of gold

    Petroleum is black gold because when crude oil is extracted from land it seems to be black in colour and its callled *gold* because it have many values and is used in many purposes. Like it's used to make petrol, kerosene etc
