The visual ability of humans and other animals is the result of the complex interaction of light, eyes and brain. We are able to see because light from an object can move through space and reach our eyes. We see objects because they either give off their own light, or light reflects off the objects and enters our eyes. It doesn't make its own light – we can see the moon because it reflects light from the sun.
