The scroll painters and potters came to kalighat because this was a time when city was expanding as a commercial and adminstrative services and colonial offices were also been setup . This the new opportunity for the people to come and make a new living . They began to paint new themes because of taste, value, social morms and culture. These we're under going with fast changes after 1840s. They responded toward around and produced painting on social and political themes
