Under subsidiary alliance the Indian ruler were not allowed to have their indep army they will be protected by the east India company. For this they have to pay some amount if they failed to pay money one part of their territory will be taken by the company. Under this system awadh and Hyderabad have been captured

In subsidiary alliance ruler doesn't have own force.it is a type of revenue system which is introduced by Lord Dalhousie. When the Indian ruler doesn't give revenue his territory was annexed by east India company.
