The production of new organism from a single parent without the involvement of *** cells is called asexual reproduction. Hydra and Amoeba are tiny animals which reproduce by the process of asexual reproduction. The new organisms produced by asexual reproduction are exactly identical to the parent. The two most common methods of asexual reproduction are budding and binary fission.

  1. Budding - Budding is a method of asexual reproduction in which a small part of the body of the parent organism grows out as a bud which then detaches and becomes a new organism. Example – Hydra. In Hydra, a small outgrowth called bud is formed on the side of its body by the repeated division of its cells which gradually grows to form a small Hydra. It then detaches itself from the parent body and lives as a separate organism.
  2. Binary fission - Binary fission is a method of asexual reproduction in which the parent organism splits to form two new organisms. Example – Amoeba reproduces by binary fission. When the Ameoba cell has reached its maximum size of growth, its nucleus lengthens and divides into two parts. After that the cytoplasm divides into two parts, one part around each nucleus. In this way, one parent gives rise to two daughter Amoebae.
