Let the length of each side of square = s
Now length of diagonal of square = 12 cm
{tex}\begin{array}{l}\Rightarrow\sqrt2\mathrm s=12\\\\\Rightarrow\mathrm s=\frac{12}{\sqrt2}=\frac{12}{\sqrt2}\times\frac{\sqrt2}{\sqrt2}=\frac{12\sqrt2}2=6\sqrt2\mathrm{cm}\\\\\mathrm{Now},\mathrm{area}\mathrm{of}\mathrm{square}=\mathrm s^2=\left(6\sqrt2\right)^2=6\sqrt2\times6\sqrt2=72\mathrm{cm}^2\end{array}{/tex}
