Wax is a petroleum product and it is used in candles, therefore when the wax melts, it rises through the wick and is vaporized during burning and produce flames. ... Charcoal is a combustible substance and glows while burning. It does not form flame because it is natural lump variety made from hardwood. Charcoal is a solid fuel. This is the reason that it can't vaporious on heating. so that's why coal not burn by producing flame.. Coal or charcoal does not produce flame when burnt because it does not vapourizes, only those substances which vapourizes on burning produce flame like wax , natural gas.
