    Under the ryotwari system, the planters force the ryots to sign a contract and agreement. At times they pressurized the village headman to sign the contract on behalf of the ryots. Whereas the charge of collecting revenue and paying it to the company was given to the village headman, rather than the zamindar known as the mahalwari system.
