Sodium is a metal which reacts vigorously with cold water it forming sodium hydroxide. It produce pop sound because hydrogen is actually a combustible gas . But when we try t burn it , it explodes . However when you produce hydogen in labotary , which is reactively less and put it on a burning splint it also explodes for POP sound . The very small explosion extinguishes the flame.
