Author called Macavity as fiend or monster because macavity is a mystery cat and when the crime happen macavity is not there.

The poet is fond of the cats.That is why, he describes a big cat in such detail.Howevr, for the rats the cat is certainly a fiend and a monster. So the poet gives him adjectives as well
