He divided the period like this because he thought that 1 All Asian society were at a lower level. 2. Mill felt that India was previously ruled by Hindu and Muslim despots. 3 Mill thought that Britishers or Europeans could civilise india 4 He thought that Britishers should conquer all the parts of India so that all the Indians should get the good European Manners

James mill divided Indian history into three periods Hindu Muslim and British the periodisation has its own problem it was difficult to refer to any period of time as Hindu or Muslim because a variety of faith existed simultaneously in this period
