Galaxies are massive systems, bound by gravity, consisting of stars and remnants of dead stars; an interstellar medium of gas and dust. The Milky Way has about 200 billion stars and our Sun is just one of those stars in the Milky Way Galaxy. There are three major types of galaxies: spiral, irregular, and elliptical. Also, there is a quasar galaxy.
