Too much water actually is bad for most of our trees and plants. If soil becomes water logged and stays that way as poorly draining clay soil tends to do the water can cut off the air supply to the roots and to the microorganisms that live in healthy soil. It can lead to root rot or other diseases. HENCE EXCESS IRRIGATION IS HARMFUL TO THE CROPS
