James mill divided Indian history into three periods Hindu Muslim and British the periodisation has its own problem it was difficult to refer do any period of time as Hindu or Muslim because a variety of faith existed simultaneously in this period it was also not justified to characterize and age to the religion of the ruler of the time what is suggest is that life and practices of others do not really matter.
