Weight of a battle tank is very huge. If they used wheels, they would often get stuck. Therefore in order to spread their heavy weight on the ground, they use caterpillar tracks in place of tyres. Battle tanks use caterpillar tracks to spread their heavy weight on soft ground. This prevents the sinking of land under the weight of the tank .
