Displacement reaction
1) a more highly reactive element displaces the less reactive element from its solution form.
2) generally no precipitate is formed.
3) eg: 3FeSO4 +2Al → Al2(SO4)3 + 3Fe
4) it is a slow reaction
Double- displacement reaction
1) the exchange of ions between the two reactant compounds take place. if there is a double displacement reaction taking place then you don’t have to consider the reactivity order.
2) generally precepitates are formed. note that all neutralisation reactions are double displacement reactions' special case as no ppt is formed.
3) Pb(NO3)2 + 2KI → PbI2 + 2KNO3
4) it is a fast reaction
