Two Dutch spectacle makers, Zacharias Jansen and his father, Hans Jansen are thought to have invented the first microscope around the year 1590. However, Antonie van leeuwenhoek, a Dutch lensmaker and Scientist, was the first person to observe microorganisms and describe them. He is considered the 'father of microscopy'
