Dirty water containing chemicals is put back in the river. Water used for cooling is warmer than the river itself, and this is also a form of pollution. People are sometimes careless and throw rubbish such as bottles and crisp packets directly into rivers. ... Polluted water also carries diseases. Rivers get polluted because of a number of reasons: Sewage And Waste Water: Sewage, garbage and liquid waste of households, agricultural lands and factories are discharged into lakes and rivers. These wastes contain harmful chemicals and toxins which make the water poisonous for aquatic animals and plants.
