    Cutting and burning of trees is called shifting clitivation.

    Its also known as slash and burn agriculture. In this process large number of trees are burnt and use those ashes as fertilisers. When the burnt place looses its fertility the cultivators shift to another area to cultivate crops again by slash and burn method!!
