no of members of B = y
then as per question
x + 1 = 2(y - 1) ... i
y + 1 = x - 1 .... ii
rearranging ii
x - 1 = y + 1 ......... iii
x + 1 = 2y - 2 ........ iv
iii - iv
- 2 = - y + 3
y = 5
x = 7
thus group A has 7 members and group B has 5 members
