Monks and nuns inhabit the lowest rung of the hierarchy in the Catholic Church. The lay community provide monks and nuns with their basic needs like food, clothing, shelter, and medicine,so they can devote their time to the study and practice of the Dhamma.
A monk is a person who practices religious asceticism by monastic living, either alone or with any number of other monks.
A nun is a woman who belongs to a religious order and takes the vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. Their vows are publicly accepted by superiors in the name of the Church and solemn.
