Tides are periodic rises and falls of large bodies of water. Ocean current are continous and directed movements of ocean waters.

The main difference between the two is that while tides are caused due to the gravitational pull between the Earth, moon and the Sun, ocean currents are caused due to various factors like winds, density differences in water masses, salinity and temperature.

Factors Affecting Climate Changes

  • Topography: It means the shape of a land. Latitudes and elevation ranges are one of the factors that lead to fluctuation in surface temperatures. It can lead to local changes in climate.
  • Sea level: Distance from the sea and nearby water bodies are one of the influential factors that affect the climate of a region. The surface temperatures in Sea have an effect on land temperatures. Coastal areas are cooler and wetter than internal areas. This leads to cloud formation when warm air from these interior areas meets cool air from the sea.
  • Ocean currents: Ocean currents could transfer heat energy from land to sea or vice versa thus affecting the temperature of the region.
  • Prevailing winds: Winds distribute particular air masses. The direction of the wind could determine the climate of a region. Since the wind from the humid region could bring cool air while that from the dry region would bring hot air.

Spring Tides

Neap Tides

Spring tides are the result of the moon and sun working together to exert more pull on the earth's oceans.

Neap tides are the result of the moon and sun working against each other's pull.

In Spring tide , the difference between high and low tide is the greatest.

In Neap tide , the difference between high and low tide is the least.

Shubham Danu 5 years, 2 months ago

Because there is no oxygen

Yogita Ingle 5 years, 4 months ago

There is no life on the Moon because of the absence of atmosphere and water on it. Since the Moon has no atmosphere, it experiences extreme temperatures. During the day time, the temperature may be as high as 1270C and it can drop down to -1730C. Further, due to the absence of atmosphere, there is no weather, wind, clouds, rain and water on the Moon.
