    पाकिस्तान और बांग्लादेश दोनों ने सैन्य शासन और लोकतांत्रिक रूप से निर्वाचित नागरिक सरकारों का अनुभव किया है। उनके राजनीतिक अनुभवों के संबंध में कुछ समानताएँ और अंतर हैं: सामान्य विशेषताएँ: a. पाकिस्तान द्वारा अपना संविधान बनाए जाने के तुरंत बाद, जनरल अयूब खान ने प्रशासन संभाला और खुद को पाकिस्तान का राष्ट्रपति चुन लिया। जनता के बीच बढ़ते मोहभंग ने सैन्य शासन का मार्ग प्रशस्त किया, जिसके बाद जनरल याह्या खान सत्ता में आए, जिसके परिणामस्वरूप बाद में बांग्लादेश संकट पैदा हुआ। सैन्य और नागरिक शासन के मिश्रित रिकॉर्ड के साथ, पाकिस्तान को तीव्र राजनीतिक अस्थिरता का सामना करना पड़ा। हालाँकि, 2008 में पाकिस्तान में लोकतांत्रिक रूप से चुनी गई सरकार का अपना कार्यकाल पूरा करना एक ऐतिहासिक उपलब्धि थी। b. इसी तरह, बांग्लादेश, जो 1971 में एक स्वतंत्र देश बन गया, का लोकतांत्रिक और अलोकतांत्रिक ताकतों के बीच दरार के लंबे इतिहास के साथ मिश्रित रिकॉर्ड है। इसके निर्माण के तुरंत बाद, शेख मुजीबुर रहमान ने सरकार की एक राष्ट्रपति प्रणाली की स्थापना की और अवामी लीग को छोड़कर सभी दलों को समाप्त कर दिया, जिससे समाज में संघर्ष और कलह का मार्ग प्रशस्त हुआ। अगस्त 1975 में एक सैन्य विद्रोह में मुजीबुर रहमान की हत्या कर दी गई। इसके बाद, एक नए सैन्य शासक जियाउर रहमान ने अपनी बांग्लादेश नेशनल पार्टी बनाई और 1979 में चुनाव जीते, लेकिन एक बार फिर एक सैन्य शासक ने उन्हें सत्ता से हटा दिया और 1991 में लोकतंत्र बहाल हो गया। दोनों देशों के बीच राजनीतिक अनुभवों के संबंध में मतभेद इस प्रकार हैं: क. पाकिस्तान में राजनीति में सैन्य शासकों, पादरियों और अभिजात वर्ग की मौजूदगी और हस्तक्षेप बढ़ रहा है। ख. बांग्लादेश में राजनीतिक नेताओं और पार्टी के सदस्यों का वर्चस्व है, जिसके कारण अक्सर झड़पें होती हैं और सरकारें पलट जाती हैं। ग. भारत के साथ पाकिस्तान के संघर्ष ने उसकी राजनीति में सेना की भूमिका बढ़ा दी है। वास्तव में, बांग्लादेश के मामले में ऐसा नहीं है, जहाँ हमने लोकतंत्र समर्थक समूहों की बढ़ती भूमिका देखी है।
