Because Griffin found Marvel to be weak and gullible. He thought that it will be easy for him to control him. Marvel actually lacked confidence a d courage and he obeyed Griffin. He feared his death. He had no choice but to help Griffin because Griffin had compelled Marvel to follow his orders

Thomas Marvel is an alcoholic who depends on Charity altogether for his survival. He is shot in stature, fat and ugly. On his first encounter with Griffin he refuse to believe on his invisibility, and refuse that his talking to an invisible man if you that he's talking to invisible man. When hit by when hit by Griffin with friend on his toe , he gets ready to believe on his former's invisibility. Even he gets ready to help the stranger in his misdeeds. On the order of Griffin he goes to coach and horses to steal the strangers luggage, where he has a narrow escape of being caught by General dealer and other local people. Although he is saved by The Invisible Man, but he shows no pity on that short man Marvel. He is Laden with luggage, 3 fat books and Golden coins which Griffin Robs of the people, taking the advantage of his invisibility. Having seen the intention of the stranger, he decide to quit his job and request Griffin to accept his resignation. But, his wish is denied. He is also beaten and pushed by Griffin when he tried to disclose the secret of Griffin and his identity to one of the mariner. Finally he manages to escape from the the company of the Griffin in the end. He goes to police and surrender himself for being safe.After the death of invisible man, he opens an in by the name of'The invisible man ' at port Stowe with the moneyhe had surrendered.now he allures more and more customers by telling them the incidents which he had with stranger.

The crofter was talkative and friendly with peddler.He lived alone and needed company so he disclosed all his secrets and shared his feelings with peddler.He was kind and hospitable and gave him food and shelter.He also told the peddler about 30 kronors.Thus he was kind and generous but get betrayed by the peddler due to the blind faith shown by him on a stranger. crofter-lonely,happy,friendly,generous,hospitable,trusting

Griffin is the central theme of the novel the invisible man written HG Wells. Griffin was a medical student who was interested in Physics he wanted to discover or formula on how to make the goods invisible he succeeded in doing so but he did not know how to reverse the process it was a mixture of opium and other drugs after hard sufferings he was able to become invisible but during his invisibility he suffered many problems he was not able to eat food because it is visible until it is fully digested also he's not able to pass through the crowd people can feel him but they can't see him . Griffin used his power for Evil things he did not realise his mistake even when his father shot himself due to his robbery in his own house it shows that he is an antagonist Griffin is a protagonist as he was a great scientist because he succeeded in discovering the formula of becoming invisible but the result of his deeds comes to an end when he reached port burdock where with the combined efforts of doctor k e m p and colonal a d y e he was killed after his death he become visible to all
