Rag picking is the means of survival for the ragpickers. According to the author, it is their "daily bread, a roof over their heads, even if it is a leaking roof". Thus, it is equivalent to gold for them. Besides, for the children, it is "wrapped in wonder" for they, at times, chance upon "a rupee, even a ten-rupee note". OR Garbage is gold to the ragpickers of Seemapuri because it provides them items which can be sold for cash, which can buy them food and is a means of survival. Morevoer, it is gold also because the ragpickers can find stray coins and currency notes in it.

THOMAS MARVEL:- Marvel is something of a stock character. He is a poor, homeless, jobless wanderer. In other words, he is a tramp. He wears shabby, old-fashioned clothes like his 'obsolete hat'. He does not seem to like work. He does e everything in a leisurely manner. But Marvel ends up successfully. He has become the landlord of the little inn near Port Stowr and the owner of all the information about Griffin. Hr is a short and little man with a nose of cylindrical proportions and wiry hair. He is rich because he has been able to keep all the money Griffin stole because lawyers could not identify the sources accurately. He is a bachelor and conducts his house with decorum. Though ge refuses to work an an assistant to Griffin, he exploits his name and several encounters with him. He sells stories about him to make money. That is how Marvel is able to rise up from being a poor tramp to being the owner of an inn.

He dreams of establishing the Reign of Terror on mankind. In this regards, he tries to get the support of Dr. Kemp. But whem Kemp refuses to be a part of his plan, he turns against him and becomes revengeful, callous and cruel. He is determined to kill him. Jack feels that he has been caught in an ugly middle position physically, emotionally as well as mentally. He was conscious of his duties as a father and as a husband. His efforts to make Jo fall asleep proved quite fatiguing. She kept on interrupting him asking for clarifications, pointing errors and suggesting alternatives. Jack did not like that women should take anything for granted. He like them to be apprehensive. So, he extended the story, though he was in a haste to go downstairs and help his pregnant wife in her hard work of painting the furniture. Jack felt utter weariness and did not want to speak with his wife as he felt that he was really caught in an ugly middle position.

Anything added into the environment that results in producing harmful or poisonous effect on living things is called pollution. Pollution is the process that makes nature's resources such as land, water, air and other parts of the environment unsafe or unsuitable to use. Pollution can be of many types: soil, air, water, thermal, radioactive, noise and light. The toxins released are inhaled by each one of us while we breathe. POLLUTION AND ITS CAUSES :- Inhaling poisonous air is as hazardous as smoking. It is not only humans who are affected from this polluted environment but also tge the animals. Air is filled with highly toxic gases. These dangerous gases in environment are releaed by the power industries that burn fossil fuels, industries that dispose wastes in water, farmers using pesticides, high usage of artificial lights and loud sounds, etc. Each of these leads to generation of the life threatening cause - pollution. Any use of natural resources at a rate higher than the nature's capacity to restore itself can result in pollution of air, water and land. Other than human activities, there are few periodic natural cycles that aslo result on release of dangerous stuff. Natural activities other than the human activities like volcanic eruption, dust wildfires, etc. also result in creation of pollution. Globalisation is another major cause of pollution. Globalisation has become an effective facilitator of environmental degradation. CONCLUSION :- Every individual owns certain responsibilities of maintaining few points such as not throwing garbage all around, growing trees, using public transport instead of their own, etc. We must shun excessive consumption and avoid careless and deliberate disposal of post consumption waste resources which could otherwise be recycled and would lead to pollution control. Pollution cannot be reduced or controlled if a sense of responsibility towards our Mother Earth is not felt by all concerned.

"The Tiger King" is a very appropriate title for the story for several reasons. First of all, the king is crazy about tiger hunting so much so that he marries a princess whose father's kingdom has a sizeable tiger population. He kills one hundred tigers just to fulfil his vow. Secondly, the king with all his frenzy, anger and ruthlessness is as ferocious as a tiger. Thirdly, he dies of a sliver prick received from a wooden toy tiger. Finally, the prediction that a tiger would cause the king's death also comes true. Since the story revolves round a king and the hundred tigers that he kills, it could not be better titled than "The Tiger King".
