Bhumika Marwah 6 years, 3 months ago

Gandhiji opposed to them. He said that taking the help of an englishman would be their weakness . They should learn to win the battle with their own strength . They should learn to be self- dependent.

The poem 'Keeping quiet' celebrates the necessity of introspection and the advantage of doing nothing for sometimes in life. Much of the evil disappears in the depths of a silent and inactive life, for if man, at one point of life, does nothing, life on earth, can become a heaven for those moments of life.

Mukund Padmanabhan from The Hindu interviewed Umberto Eco. During the interview, Umberto does not show any irritation or despises any questions. He freely answers the queries like V.S. Naipaul and he does not consider it as an unwarranted intrusion into one’s life. He is quite modest and considerate while giving every answer. When Mukund asks him how he can do all the things, Eco answers that he is always doing the same thing though to some it may look like he is doing many things. Like Rudyard Kipling, Eco does not think the act of interviewing as immoral, criminal or an assault to an individual.  He cooperates with Mukund and shows interest in all the questions put to him. H.G.Wells feels that interviewing is a sort of an ordeal but Eco is happy with it and he also expresses his ‘philosophical interests’ to Mukund. He tells the secret of his work which is his ability to work in empty spaces. He Is humble about the utmost success of his novel, 'The  Name of the Rose’ and he even tells about the sale and other facts put to him by Padmanabhan. Thus Umberto Eco does not present any sort of dislike at being interviewed.

While parting, the poet felt the old familiar ache i.e. the ache of separation from her mother. It was her childhood fear that she experienced again. She tried to conceal her true emotions by putting on a long and fake smile.

When the poet made a reference to ‘Open-handed map Awarding the world its world’, he wanted to express that only this map shouldn’t remain an instrument to know the world but these children be given to know the real world. The map also signifies hopes and aspirations which motivates people to aspire for a world beyond their reach. The poet considers the world map ironic as for these children their world is this classroom and probably they won't see any of the places mentioned in the world map.
