The book ‘Deep Water’ was written by American lawmaker and politician William Orville Douglas (1898 – 1980).
The two misadventures he mentions in the book are, once when he had gone to the beach with his family, he was swept over by a sea wave which bred in him an intense fear for water. This happened when he was a little boy.
Later on, after a few years when he was standing by the side of a swimming pool, he was pushed into the water by a bully. This prank almost cost the author his life, but some other boys pulled him out of the pool and saved him.
However, through sheer determination and courage, at a later time, he learnt swimming from an instructor.
