This line is from the chapter, ‘The Last Lesson’, by Alphonse Daudet. This line he speaks to his fellow Frenchmen during his last teaching session. His country had lost districts of Alsace and Lorraine to the Prussians. As a result German had to be taught in the schools now. M. Hamel and the villagers were exceedingly regretful for having neglected the learning of the French language. M Hamel blamed the inhabitants of Alsace and Lorraine for their lackadaisical attitude to learning French. He even blamed himself for not teaching the French language seriously, as he gave holidays to his students when he wanted to enjoy leisure activities such as fishing and gardening.

This story describes Gandhi’s struggle for the poor peasants of Champaran. In those days most of arable land in the Champaran district was divided into large estate owned by Englishmen and worked by Indian tenants. The chief commercial crop was Indigo. The landlords compelled all tenants to plant 15% of their Indigo and surrender the entire Indigo harvest as rent. This was done by long term contract. The British didn’t need the Indigo crop any more when Germany had developed synthetic Indigo. Just to release the peasants from the 15% agreement they demanded compensation. Some illiterate peasants agreed but the others refused. One of the sharecroppers named Raj Kumar Shukla met Gandhi in this regard and compelled him to visit Champaran because of the long term injustice of landlords. Then the two of them boarded a train for the city of Patna in Bihar. From there Shukla led him to the house of a lawyer named Rajendra Prasad. Mahatma Gandhi’s humble and simple attire made the servants mistook him as another poor peasant. He surveyed before taking any vital step in order to get those peasants justice. It was the time when British government punished those who in any condition gave shelter to national leaders or protesters. Gandhi’s arrival and the nature of his mission spread like a wildfire. Many lawyers and peasant groups came in large numbers to support him. The lawyers accepted the fact that their charges were high and for a poor peasant it will be irksome. Gandhi rebuked them for collecting big fee from the sharecroppers. He stressed on counseling as this would give the peasants enough confidence to fight their fear. He managed to get justice after a yearlong battle for the peasants. He also made arrangements for the education, health, and hygiene for the families of the poor peasants. He gave them the lesson of self-reliance

Welcoming and friendly as always had his garden gates open for everyone.& used to make toffees and jelly from honey and apple to give to people.sensitive to nature ,had no curtains in his house to enjoy weather & considered bees to be signing rather than buzzing . Motivational , inspiring , practical person as instilled confidence in derry to accept the world and himself as they are . Light hearted ,never took criticism of people and funny names given to him affect him deeply .Acceptable ,had a separate patch for weed garden . visionary ,had a positive outlook toward life and kept his disability on the face of it but at the same time he was lonely and disappointed because no one used to come back after meeting him .

U can skip 1 or 2 chap from vistas (not flammingo ) as u have to write any 5 answers out of 7 in short answers and also in long answers you get internal choices.but you should know the other chapters thoroughly so that out of that 7 you know the 5 best. But I would recommend you to do all the chapters as each and everything is important.... Remember there is no shortcut to success ???

Galesburg was a peaceful city, specially in 1894. According to Charley, it is wonderful town even in the present world. His grandfather lived there and Charley also lived there, when he was a school going kid. The city of Galesburg had big frame houses. There were huge lawns in the city. The city had large trees across the roads, and their branches met overhead to form a kind of roof over the roads. It was nice to be there during summers. The evenings of the summer were long and people enjoyed sitting in their lawns. People used palm-leaf fans. Fireflies used to fly around and all this made the city of Galesburg a beautiful and peaceful city to live in.

Sam and Charley had seen the rushing life of the New York city. A city which never stops or sleeps, not even for a while. The pace of the life had made the lives of the people stressful, so they wanted to be in the city of Galesburg for the sake of peace and tranquility.
