In his interview with Mukund Padmanabhan, Umberto Eco states that he started writing novels by accident. Novels satisfied his taste for narration. Further he says : “I am a professor who writes novels on Sundays.” All these facts clarify that Eco was not a full time novelist. He considers himself a regular academic scholar. Against 40 works of non-fiction, Eco has written only five novels. Eco feels proud in considering himself as a university professor. When he says he writes on Sundays, it signifies that Novel writing is his casual job. He points out that he does not go to pen clubs or writers. He participates in academic conferences. So he clearly identifies himself with the academic community. He identifies himself as a regular academic scholar than a novelist

The author, Asokamitran, is the member of the Gemini Studios. He gives a good account of the working and the culture of the people working in the different parts of the studios. He has created so many situations that point out gentle humour as well human foibles. In case we peep deep into the author himself, we can note that he himself worked in a cubicle. He was to tear up and take the clippings from the newspapers and to keep them in the files. Most of the people think that he does practically nothing. Even the office boy used to advise him not to waste his literary talent in a department that was fit for barbers and perverts. But the narrator always desired for crowd shouting all the time.
Further one can note that the description of the lawyers is quite humourous. Officially he was known as the legal adviser but everybody referred to him as the opposite. It was he who brought a sad end to the brilliant career of a talented actress. In the same way the office boy was not exactly a boy, he was a man in his early forties. He entered the studios to become a star actor, or a top screen writer, director or lyrics writer. He was to do the make-up work for the crowd. He was disappointed that his talent was being wasted. The visit of the poet or the editor remained as an “unexplained mystery.”

Gandhiji succeeded in getting justice for the Indigo sharecroppers through non-violence and the method of civil disobedience. Gandhiji stood for the sharecroppers of Champaran district, which were being exploited by the Britishers by charging 15% interest on the Indigo crops and afterwards demanding compensation for that 15% in order to release them from that.
Gandhiji after collecting evidence and information about the whole scenario took legal actions against the Britishers with the help of the lawyers who were supporting Gandhiji. When the court ordered to arrest Gandhiji, his followers too agreed to go in jail along with him. This led the Britishers and the court to release Gandhiji and also provide justice to the peasants of Champaran.

The peddler had written that
- since Edla had treated him like a captain, he wanted to be nice to her in return.
- did not want her to be embarrassed at Christmas by a thief.
- had requested her to return back the crofter’s money that he had stolen
- the rattrap was a Christmas present from a rat who would have been caught in the world’s rattrap, if he had not been raised to the status of captain, which motivated him to reform himself.
