Hana’s character
Hana is an epitome of a loving, dedicated and caring wife. She always has love and affection in her heart for Sadao. In spite of being married for so many years, she is still the same loving wife. She often assists Sadao in her medical operations as she helped him with anesthetics while operating Tom. She loves her family. She gets scared when a man in uniform appears at the gate. She is also a good-hearted woman as she also wished Tom to be saved. She is quite hardworking. When Yumi, the nurse refuses to wash Tom, she does it herself. When the servants leave Sadao’s home in protest, she does all the chores herself. However, she is not as courageous as Sadao

A thing of beauty gives us eternal and everlasting happiness and leaves such an impact in our mind that we are able to relive the wonderful feeling we get from it each time we think about it. It never fades into nothingness, in fact its loveliness increases with each passing moment.

Keats compares the beautiful things of nature to a fountain of immortal drink. He calls its drink immortal because the beauty, joy and pleasure derived from it are everlasting. According to the poet, the beauties of nature are boundless. They are endless and numberless. Our nature is an eternal source of joy, happiness and pleasure for all the living organisms. There is a fountain of eternal joy that pours nectar into the hearts and souls of men. It flows from the heaven’s brink.

The poet uses the image of an ‘endless fountain’, which showers bounties on Earth. He calls this an ‘immortal drink’ from heaven. The sun, the moon, the trees, the daffodils, the lush green forests and streams, all reflect the beautiful bounties which God has given us.

The poem ‘A Thing of Beauty’ gives a clear cut message that a thing of beauty is a joy for ever. It never passes into nothingness. Our earth is replete with innumerable natural objects full of beauty. These enliven our spirits and remove the pall of despondency, misery, sadness and sufferings. The nature pours nectar in our 6depressed spirits. When we are in pensive mood, there is nature to heal it.

Whenever we look at a beautiful object, we are filled with comfort and joy. When we are burdened with grief, a thing of beauty comes as a ray of hope, and makes us forget our sorrow and suffering at least for some time.

The poet says that beauty stays forever. It never fades away. Rather, it increases with the passing time. The perception of the poet regarding beauty is that it never goes off with the passing time, rather it beautifies more and more. For the poet, beauty is like a beautiful shady tree under whose shade all the creatures can sleep peacefully and enjoy good health.
