In flowering plants, pollen grains are formed with the anther. If you look at the diagram to the right, you will see that the anther is a part of the stamen. Essentially, the anther is where the pollen grains are produced! Pollen can be used to determine pollination mechanisms, foraging resources, migration routes and source zones of insects and other pollinators.

They created probable conditions of primitive earth in the laboratory. They used spark discharge apparatus that had two tungsten electrodes to provide electric discharge (simulating lightning of primitive atmosphere). An atmosphere of gases (CH4, NH3, H2O, H2) was created in a chamber and condensed liquid allowed to accumulate in another chamber. Energy supplied by heating water in another chamber. After some days amino acids like glycine, alanine and some more complex organic compounds were collected in vitro like  purine, pyrimidine, sugar, glycerol, formic acid, short chain etc. This indicated the possibility of origin of life from inanimate matter on the earth, when atmosphere was reducing (containing no free oxygen), containing gases like methane, ammonia, hydrogen sulphide, frequent lightning and enough water was present. Simple amino acids which are building blocks of proteins might have given rise to complex molecules that are building blocks of cells.

(a) Population density means number of individuals present per unit area. We can find out population density of a habitat by determining the population size. The different methods to study population size are as follows:-

(1) Total number: In this method the total number of organism in the population is counted. For example, in order to determine the number of bacteria growing in a Petri dish, their colonies are counted.

(2) Relative densities- In this method relative density of the population is taken into account rather than counting the total number. For example - The number fish caught per trap gives the measure of their total population density in the given water body.

(3) Percent cover or biomass cover: For example in a population of 200 Parthenium plants and a single huge Banyan tree the percent cover of both are taken into account.

Viruses are even smaller than bacteria and require living hosts — such as people, plants or animals — to multiply. Otherwise, they can't survive. When a virus enters your body, it invades some of your cells and takes over the cell machinery, redirecting it to produce the virus. Viruses are well known for attacking humans and animals, but some viruses instead attack bacteria. ... The attackers are called phages, or bacteriophages, meaning eaters of bacteria. The word bacteriophage is derived from the Greek "phagein," meaning eater of bacteria.

Drugs have a powerful effect on the human brain, and the roots of addiction take shape there. In essence, drugs have the capability to impact how the brain receives signals and messages via their system of neurons and neurotransmitters. Neurons are cells in the brain that communicate information, and they do so by sending and receiving the neurotransmitter molecules.

Early exposure to a home divided by drug use can cause the child to feel emotionally and physically neglected and unsafe. As a result, they can become more mentally and emotionally unstable. Children may develop extreme guilt and self-blame for a parent's substance abuse. Substance abuse affects and costs the individual, the family, and the community in significant, measurable ways including loss of productivity and unemployability; impairment in physical and mental health; reduced quality of life; increased crime; increased violence; abuse and neglect of children.

  • This law gives the explanation for expression of only one of the parental trait in F1 hybrid.
  • This law states that out of a pair of contrasting characters only one is able to express itself phenotypically in F1 hybrid called as dominant while the alternate form remains hidden and called recessive.
  • In a cross between true breeding tall pea plant and a true breeding dwarf pea plant, all the plants of F1 generation were tall.
  • When the F1 individuals were self-pollinated it was observed that the tall and dwarf plants in F1 generation were in the ratio of 3 : 1.
  • further, when dwarf plants were self-pollinated, the successive generation produced only dwarf plants showing their homozygous/true breeding nature.
  • On self-pollination of tall plants, some of them produced only tall plants in successive generations while others produced both tall and dwarf plants showing their Heterozygous nature.

A record of inheritance of certain genetic traits for two or more generations presented in the form of a diagram or family tree is called pedigree. Analysis of traits in a several generation of a family is called as pedigree analysis. It is employed in case of human beings and domesticated animals.
Importance:
(i) In human genetics, pedigree study provides a strong tool which is utilised to trace the inheritance of a specific trait, abnormality or disease.
(ii) It is useful for the genetic counsellors to advice in tending couples about the possibility of having children with genetic defects like haemophilia, colour blindness, alkaptonuria, thalassemia and sickle all anaemic.
