Human development is a process of enlarging the range of people's choices, increasing their opportunities for education, health care, income and empowerment and covering the full range of human choices from a sound physical environment to economic, social and political freedom.
Approaches to Human Development are:
- Income Approach: The level of income reflects the level of freedom an individual enjoys. Higher the level of income, the higher is the level of human development.
- Welfare Approach: This approach argues for higher government expenditure on education health, social secondary and amenities. The government is responsible for increasing levels of human development by maximizing expenditure on welfare.
- Basic Needs Approach: The emphasis is on the provision of the basic needs of defined sections. Six basic needs were identified- health. education. food. water supply, sanitation, and housing.
- Capability Approach: Building human capabilities in the areas of health, education, and access to resources is the key to increasing human development.

The Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) includes the trans-Alaska crude-oil pipeline, 11 pump stations, several hundred miles of feeder pipelines, and the Valdez Marine Terminal. TAPS is one of the world's largest pipeline systems. It is commonly called the Alaska pipeline, trans-Alaska pipeline, or Alyeska pipeline, (or the pipeline as referred to in Alaska), but those terms technically apply only to the 800 miles (1,287 km) of the pipeline with the diameter of 48 inches (1.22 m) that conveys oil from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez, Alaska. The crude oil pipeline is privately owned by the Alyeska Pipeline Service Company.
