One outlook is that the younger generation is so engrossed in their own life and survival that they find little time for elders in the family. The elders have given their whole life building a stable life for their family and children. Earlier, life was simple too. Father goes to office and earns money to run the family . Mother takes care of the household and ensures that children are brought up well and do well in their education too. The roles were almost fixed. There was always an elder or two around to be supported and taken care of.

The current generation wants to live life fully by equipping themselves with good education , career and want to have fun too. With both sexes opting for the same thing there are no typical set of roles when it comes down to family. Everybody is busy trying to set some goals and reach there to achieve something in life. They do not pause to think that the elders who brought them up need some attention too as their part is over and they are free.

Also, the elders were so busy bringing up family, they never paused to consider what they would do when they were free of all obligations and have nothing much to contribute. That is when elders feel lonesome.

There are ways to get around this if one could work out ways to be active and useful. Being active lessens the lonesomeness.

The younger generation could be a little sensitive and be attentive to elders when an occasion warrants it.

This is the best solution for both sides to do their part and be a family and be there for each other where it counts.

Taplow

Taplow is a boy of sixteen who is extremely interested in science. He does not like learning Greek and Latin. He is a good mimic as he imitates Croker Harris’s voice and style very well. He is a very good judge of good qualities. Though Crocker Harris is very strict, yet Taplow has high regard for him. He does not consider him a sadist. He admires Crocker Harris. He does not want to make Crocker Harris angry by displeasing him in any manner. When Frank suggests him that he could play and come back as there are very bleak chances of Crocker Harris’s coming, he refuses to do so.

Mr. Frank

Mr. Frank is a junior science teacher at the school where Taplow studies. He is an inexperienced teacher who has lenient and modern views about education. Unlike Mr Crocker Harris he is quite frank with his teacher and does not know how to keep a healthy distance from his students. He appears to have an affair with  Mrs. Crocker Harris.

The three phases of the author’s relationship with his grandmother before he left the country to study abroad are given below.

The first phase was the period of the author’s early childhood. During this phase, he used to live with his grandmother in the village. The grandmother used to take care of him from waking him up and getting him ready to accompany him to the school. Both shared a good friendship with each other.

The second phase was the time when the author and the grandmother moved to the city to live with the author’s parents. This was a turning point in their friendship because now they ‘saw less of each other’.

The third phase was the time the author joined the University. He was given a room of his own and the common link of their friendship was snapped. The grandmother turns to wheel-spinning and reciting prayers all day long. She accepts her seclusion with silence.

The word ‘engine’ in the extract denotes the sudden and monotonous noise put up by the young ones of the goldfinch in the nest. The poet has definitely used hyperbole in a beautiful way to compare the sudden eruption of chitterings in the tree to that of an engine starting up.

The three ways in which the author’s grandmother spent her days after he grew up are:

  • She lived alone in her room as she had accepted her loneliness quietly.
  • She sat at her spinning wheel reciting prayers.
  • In the afternoon, she would feed the sparrows for half an hour.

The older generation is surely feeling lonesome and a kind of isolation in the current scenario of both partners of the younger generation working. This is especially felt as it is a changing phase in their life.
The older generation lived and earned for their children. Their world would revolve around the life of their children. They were doing their to best to have a good standard of living and providing well for their children too. The nuclear family trend started at the same time. People felt they wanted to give their kids the best of everything, be it education, comfort, training in sports etc.
They felt they could provide the best with fewer children to take care of. Some people have even done away with one child.
They are feeling the repercussion now when the children are busy leading their own lives and have very little or no time to pay attention to them.
The children may see to their elders' comforts by ensuring the same but what the older generation needs is companionship and a bit of affection shown.

A-114 Mall Road Delhi, 12th Feb, 20XX The Editor The Times of India Bahadurshah Zafar Marg, Delhi Subject: Respecting the Dignity of women. Sir, I shall feel highly obliged if you publish the following views in the valuable columns of your esteemed paper. Women have always been the most vulnerable in any age, time, place and society. It has been observed over quite a long time that women are humiliated, tortured, harassed, stalked and molested. The other problems include sexual harassment, domestic violence and marital discord which cause a lot of embarrassment. Though strict measures are taken to improve the status of women in the society, the problem remains where it was. As we all know, in modern India, women are playing a major role and have significant contribution in the welfare of democratic values. So, it is necessary to change the male mindset towards women. It is only possible by spreading awareness among women and the society at large Also, the bringing up of boys and girls should be done equally at home. This growing rate of violence against women can be stopped. Strict measures should be adopted by the society and the government in order to do so. Moreover, we should take a pledge to start campaigns against women violence and other such issues in order to increase the status and social standing of women, economically and politically. Your Sincerely Omar/Amna

It's related to water cycle as the line says that "I give back life to my origin" . We understand from it that Rain is the important thing for every living being . And as so water evaporates from rivers etc . which then form clouds and then comes down again in the form of rain and as we say it a water cycle it happens cyclically every time . So the origin in this is from where water evaporates and it came back there only again.

The narrator visited Mrs. Dorling's house the second time, when her first visit was not of much use. Mrs. Dorling's daughter opened the door and told the narrator the the former is busy. However the narrator insisted on waiting. She saw all her mother's belongings lying in a very tasteless manner, which was painful for her considering the fact that how much her own mother cared for these. She decided to leave without waiting for Mrs. Dorling anymore thinking that none of these things will be able to bring back her loved ones nor will give her any mental peace.

ABC Nagar,

XYZ Road,

New Delhi.

Date :- 30th December 2019.

Dear Aastha,

I hope this letter finds you in good health. I’m writing this letter to you so that I could share with you my experience in a rescue operations in Bihar floods where I volunteered. The flooding occurred because of the torrential rain which continued for about 64 hours, and the state capital Patna was worst affected. Many areas were water logged with about six feet of water, along with electricity failures and shortage of drinking water. The people were taken out of their submerged homes. Many netizens came forward to arrange eatables for the people and local fishermen were hired for boat services. I was also among the people arranging food and other facilities for people. It was really a horrible scene. But I feel satisfied to do my bit.

Give my warm regards to uncle and aunty and lots of love to Tina.

Your loving friend,

Puja.
