We are not Afraid to Die Written by Gordan Cook and Alan East, the story is about a 37 year old businessman who is the narrator of the story. He has a wife named Mary and two children, Jonathan, aged 6 and Suzanne, aged 7. He and his wife both dream of a voyage around the world on their ship ‘Wave walker’ which is a 23 meter long, 30 ton wooden-hulled, just like that of the famous Captain James Cook. The whole family started sailing from Plymouth, England on July 1976. The initial phase of the three-year-long journey was from Africa to Cape Town. It was pleasant. While heading east, along with two newly hired crewmen, strong waves hit them and their survival became a question. The story tells us about how they fought each day and survived till the end. --->Hope this helps :P

The primary message of the story, The Summer of the Beautiful Horse, is that despite social or economic challenges, there are some truths which are absolute and should be practised under and all conditioned. It is undeniable that the story is set within a family that is poor.

Author’s grandmother was a very religious and independent woman. Her energy to walk with a hand on her waist and agility to perform all the tasks made her exuberant. She had a firm belief in God therefore, she always remained busy in telling the beads of her rosary and reciting the prayers. Besides, she had strong will power and ability to overcome her emotions at all the stages of her life. She was a philanthropist as well as an altruist who made stale chapattis every day for the stray dogs. She was a social butterfly who shared her joys and sorrows with all the neighbourhood women of  society. In nutshell, she was an impeccable woman with a lot of devotion and selfless attitude.

According to his earliest memory of his grandmother, Khushwant Singh's grandmother was a short, fat and slightly bent yet, superstitious woman. Her face was characterized by criss - cross wrinkles which ran all over her pale and puckered skin. She looked too old that it was nearly impossible to believe that once, she used to be a pretty woman. She always wore spotless white clothes with one hand resting on her waist to support her stoop and the other with beads of her rosary. Though old, she used to be a very kind and loving woman who truly symbolised pure serenity and was very fond of animals.
