Andrew Manson had just completed his study of medicine. He began his medical practice as an assistant to Dr. Edward Page in a small town of Blaenelly. He loved a girl Christine but his experience was disappointing. It was nearly midnight when he reached Bryngower. He found Joe Morgan waiting for him. Joe had been married for nearly twenty years. And now his wife was expecting her first child. Joe had been waiting there for an hour. The labor pains had begun before time. Andrew went into the house for his bag. Together they set out for Number 12, Blaina Terrace. The Doctor had never imagined that night would influence his whole future in that town. Joe drew up short. He refused to enter the door. Inside a narrow stair led up to a small bedroom, lit only by an oil lamp. Besides the patient, there was two other women-the tall woman of nearly seventy was Joe's mother-in-law. The other stout and elderly woman was a midwife. Joe's mother offered to make a cup of tea for the doctor. She was wise in experience. She realized that the delivery might take some time. She was afraid that the doctor would leave the case, saying that he would return later. Andrew assured her that he won't run away. He drank the tea down in the kitchen. He was tense. He knew that the case would demand all his attention. He made up his mind to remain there until everything was over. Andrew went upstairs an hour later, noted the progress made and came down to the kitchen once more. Only the wall clock was making a dull soft sound. Joe Morgan was pacing in the street outside. He was thinking of cases where marriages were dismal failures. He stretched out his legs thoughtfully. The old lady wanted to know if giving chloroform to the expectant mother could be harmful. Andrew assured her that the anesthetic won't do any harm.

Novel is there in cbse syllabus but few schools removed it. Since 11 th papers are made by school they remove few chapters which are not necessary for further classes. Like in my school silk road, laburnum top,the ghat of the only world was removed. Like that novel is removed in few school but it is there in cbse papers.....

Ace The narrator’s grandmother was a God-fearing, wrinkled old lady who loved her grandson tenderly. She was very pious and went to the temple and read the scriptures. But as years progressed, she started moving away from him because she did not like the western culture that he was exposed to, in his English school and the fact that he was learning music, which she found was not for gentle folks like her. But she did not impose her ideas on her grandson.   Gradually she started spending her time feeding sparrows in the courtyard

Summary

In the poem ‘Voice of Rain’ by Walt Whitman the poet has beautifully described his unique experience he had with rain. One day he asked rain who it was. To his utter amazement the rain answered him.

The rain replied that it is (Rain is ongoing natural phenomenon) the poem of earth; it has been rising invisibly from land and water bodies in vapor form and forming clouds in the sky and waits to fall back to its sources.

As it descends down from heaven in drops of life, it ends droughts; settles dust back to the ground, and gives life to seeds and plants that would not grow without it.

Thus gratefully it gives life back to its origin. It purifies and beautifies the earth. The rain like a song heard or unheard, returns back to its origin.

The Adventure by Jayant Narlikar is a unique story in which the author has tried to concoct a new blend of history and physics. In this story he writes about Professor Gaitonde’s unique experience. He time-travels into the past and experiences something that never ever existed. He finds himself in a Bombay that never ever existed. The Bombay Gangadharpant saw in different world was quite different. As the train stopped at Victoria Terminus, he found the station to be extremely neat and clean; the blue coaches of the train carried GBMR, “Greater Bombay Metropolitan Railway”. The working staff consisted of Anglo-Indians and a few British officers. As he came out of the station he saw the Headquarters of East India Company; while walking on Hornby Road, he saw buildings of British brands, such as Boots and Woolworth departmental stores, imposing offices of Lloyds, Barclays and other British banks. The most startling thing was at the Forbes building where his son worked, he did not find him there. Then he went to the Library of Asiatic Society to solve the riddle of the history. As a historian it was his duty to find the truth and the reality related to the battle of Panipat. He wanted to know the details of battle of Panipat. And as he read the book he was amazed to find the details totally contrary to what had actually happened. In the book he read the Marathas’ morale was very high because their leader, Vishwasrao successfully pierced the enemy defense line without being hit by the so many bullets that were fired at him. Thus they succeeded in defeating Abdali’s troops. Not only the Marthas had defeated the troops of Abdali, but they had also kept the British at bay. They had successfully established their kingdom in North India and through political acumen steered India to a state of prosperity and power. They had managed and administered India efficiently in all spheres such as finances, defense, and international trade. He was wonderstruck at this phenomenon. After leaving the library he went to a guest house and took a light meal. Professor Gaitonde went to Azad Maidan where he found a lecture going on; on the stage he noticed the presidential chair unoccupied. There he had an argument with the audience regarding the unchaired lecture, which turned out to be violent. The audience got on the stage and threw Professor Gaitonde off the stage. The throw had an effect on the professor as it was after this experience he came out of the other world experience. The latter tried to give scientific explanation to the former. According to professor Deshpande, reality is something we experience through our senses which are kind of instruments. Physicists have found there are many worlds existing besides the world we see through our senses. They have also found something startling during experiments on small systems of atoms and their particles. The behavior of these systems is unpredictable. This is called lack of determinism. Keeping this law in mind it can be said what we call reality may be different in another world.

The lines, “I am the Poem of Earth”, said by the voice of the rain, reflects a connection between rain and poet. This connection becomes more easily visible in the final two lines, “(For song, issuing from its birth-place, after fulfillment, wandering Reck'd or unreck'd, duly with love returns)”.
