In thermodynamics, the Gibbs free energy (IUPAC recommended name: Gibbs energy or Gibbs function; also known as free enthalpy to distinguish it from Helmholtz free energy) is a thermodynamic potential that can be used to calculate the maximum of reversible work that may be performed by a thermodynamic system at a constant temperature and pressure (isothermal, isobaric). The Gibbs free energy (ΔGº = ΔHº-TΔSº) (J in SI units) is the maximum amount of non-expansion work that can be extracted from a thermodynamically closed system (one that can exchange heat and work with its surroundings, but not matter); this maximum can be attained only in a completely reversible process. When a system transforms reversibly from an initial state to a final state, the decrease in Gibbs free energy equals the work done by the system to its surroundings, minus the work of the pressure forces. The Gibbs energy (also referred to as G) is also the thermodynamic potential that is minimized when a system reaches chemical equilibrium at constant pressure and temperature. Its derivative with respect to the reaction coordinate of the system vanishes at the equilibrium point. As such, a reduction in G is a necessary condition for the spontaneity of processes at constant pressure and temperature.

  • Cream has a specific density around 0.9
  • The average density of milk is formed from three factors, water, cream or fat and solids non fat ( protein, lactose etc). Milk is mixture of these.
  • Generally the specific density of milk is around 1.028
  • When cream is separated, the weightage of higher density compoment i.e solid non fat part increases. This causes overall density of mixture to increase.
  • The specific density of skimmed milk generally reaches around 1.035

Disproportionation is a chemical reaction, typically a redox reaction where a molecule is transformed into 2 or more dissimilar products. In a redox reaction, the species is simultaneously oxidised and reduced to form atleast 2 different products. Disproportionation reaction follow the form:- 2A-> A'+A" where A, A' and A" are all different chemical species. Example:- Hydrogen peroxide converting into water and oxygen is a disproportionation reaction: 2 H²O² ---> H²O + O²

Polarized light consists of waves of electromagnetic energy in the visible light spectrum where all of the waves are oscillating in the same direction simultaneously. Put simply, imagine a ray of light as a water wave, with crests and peaks. All the peaks of a water wave point in the same direction (up, against gravity) pretty much at the same time. Light is not usually this way - its peaks and troughs are often in random array, so one ray of light's peaks might point in a direction 90o opposite of another ray. When all of the rays have their peaks pointing in the same direction - like all the waves in the ocean have peaks pointing up - then those rays of light are said to be polarized to one another.

The water-gas shift reaction (WGSR) describes the reaction of carbon monoxide and water vapor to form carbon dioxide and hydrogen (the mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen is known as water gas):
CO + H2O → CO2 + H2
Nowadays ‘syngas’ is obtained from sewage, sawdust, scrap wood, newspaper etc. The process of getting syngas from coal is called “'coal gasification. ”.
C(s) + H2O → CO(g) + H2(g)

The reaction in which both oxidation and reduction take place, is called redox reaction .

Yogita Ingle 7 years, 1 month ago

Oxidation is the loss of electrons from an atom, while reduction is the gain of electrons by an atom. In a reaction these two processes occur together so that one element or compound gains electrons while the other element or compound loses electrons. This is why we call this a redox reaction. It is a short way of saying reduction-oxidation reaction .

Mixing of orbitals to form a new hybrid orbital

Rudransh Kalia 7 years, 1 month ago

Hybridization is actually a process in which atomic orbitals having different shape and energy intermix to form a set of same number of orbitals which have same shape and energy.. ... Hybridization is the combination of atomic orbitals like s,p,d or f to give the equivalent orbitals which are known as hybrid orbitals. Types-- 1.sp3 hybridization. 2.Another kind of hybridization uses the s orbital and two of the p orbitals from the second energy level of carbon to form three hybrid orbitals

Hyperconjugation is the stabilising interaction that results from the interaction of the electrons in a σ-bond (usually C-H or C-C) with an adjacent empty or partially filled p-orbital or a π-orbital to give an extended molecular orbital that increases the stability of the system.

In H2O oxygen has two lone pairs and two H both lp take more space than the h bonds and ita angle dec. to 104.5. In NH3 1 lp+ three h bonds less lp space as being one so inc.angle to 107 Lp occupy more space than bonds

Sanidhya Jadaun? 7 years, 1 month ago

Because oxygen have only two surrounded atoms while nitrogen has three surrounded atoms . Also i think oxygen is more electrongative , so its electronegativity may effect the bond angle.
