Inlay work means carving grooves and fiiting precious and semi precious stones in those grooves. They must be precisely cut to exactly fit in those areas. Inlay work at Taj Mahal is done st various areas in the building. White marble inscriptions are inlaid are used in sandstone building. Calligraphic are inlaid with dark stones on white marbles. Other stones used in the inlay work are yellow marble etc. Beautiful designs of flowers made with coloured stones with different tones help in bringing out the light and shade in the designs.
