wseNotessearch Search for any book or any question HOMEWORK HELP > REFERENCE How did Helen take her examination at Radcliffe? print Print document PDF list Cite Expert Answers JAMEADOWS eNotes educator| CERTIFIED EDUCATOR To enter Radcliffe, then the sister college of Harvard, a student had 16 hours of exams. The papers, handed out at Harvard, were sent to Radcliffe by messenger, and Keller was given a number. As she had to type her exams, her identity was not secret. She took the exams in a room by herself, and a guard stood at the door to prevent anyone from entering. Mr. Gilman read the German papers aloud to Keller, and she repeated the words to make sure she had understood them. She then typed out the answers, and Mr. Gilman spelled to her what she had written. She made corrections that he inserted. However, in the final exams, no one read her work back to her. Then, Mr. Gilman sent her work to the examiners with a note certifying that she had written them. During her final exams for Radcliffe, one of the teachers at the Perkins Institution for the Blind copied the papers for her into American braille. She was proctored by someone she did not know. Right before the exam, she received an old copy of the algebra exam papers and realized that she did not understand the notation. She asked for a copy of the notations, and she had to study them. She also found the geometry exams confusing, as she was used to reading the problems in print or having them spelled into her hand. She found the braille perplexing, and she could not see what she had written on her typewriter. She was also used to solving these types of problems mentally. She found it hard to read over all the signs correctly. In spite of these difficulties, she passed all her exams.

This statement is absolutely true in regarding To the chapter "Letter".As we have seen that at first the postmaster doesn't realises the feeling of Ali and also insulted him by calling him a pest but afterwards he realises Ali 's pain when her daughter was not well and her letter didn't came. Then he came to know about pain which which was strucked in Ali's heart from five years. And also realised his mistakes. So he actually understood that one's pain of separation is inescapable.

Dr. Alexander Graham Bell was an inventor and a teacher of a deaf. He is known for his great invention of telephone, as he patented the first telephone. In 1886, Helen met him for the first time in Washington when she was six-years old. This proved to be the beginning of their long friendship. It also became the foundation for Helen's education and life. Helen has dedicated her autobiography to him. Helen described him as being full of "tenderness and sympathy" toward her. Dr. Bell was patient and understanding with Helen in a time when no one did. He had family members who were deaf, so he had sympathy for Helen's plight. He was a great doctor but he allowed Helen to play with his watch and held her on his knee. He also understood her signs, and he advised her father to write to Mr. Anagnos, then head of the Perkins Institution in Boston, a school for blind people. After which Anne Sullivan came to teach Helen and fostered her learning.

Mr. Arthur H. Keller, Helen’s father was a captain in the Confederate Army. Kate Adams, Helen’s mother was his second wife and many years younger to him. He was a perfect gentleman who was devoted to his family. He was a renowned hunter and shot. He was known for his hospitality. He loved gardening and the watermelons and strawberries raised by him were in great demand. Often he would narrate stories to Helen which she liked considerably. The news of his sudden death after a short illness in i896 left her dazed and forlorn.  Her father was also very much concerned about her. When he heard about an eminent oculist who had been successful in many hopeless cases, he at once decided to take Helen to Chisholm in Baltimore. He examined little Helen and expressed Helen's blindness could not be treated. He advised Helen's father to meet Dr. Graham Bell in Washington. Helen's father immediately took her to Dr. Bell. Dr. Bell referred him to Mr. Anagnos, who promised him to arrange a special teacher for Helen. So Helen's parents left no stone unturned to provide the best of facilities for their disabled daughter.  Helen's parents were perfect role models of love, care, affection, and responsibilities. They didn't consider Helen as a burden on them. They were rather more worried about her education and well being. They made every effort to find the ways and means to have Helen treated and educated.

Piyush Goyal 6 years, 11 months ago

Decius Brutus interpreted calpunia's dream very cunningly. He pulled the meaning of the dream from negative to positive,so that he can fetch Ceasar out of his home. So that the conspirators can Accesinate Ceasar. He told that Ceasar's bleeding statue signifies that Ceasar will bring new blood to Rome and all the citizens can livr happily

Gaurav Seth 6 years, 11 months ago

Decius interprets Calpurnia's dream in a positive light to move Caesar. He tells Caesar that the bleeding statue which Calpurnia saw in her dream signifies that Rome depends on him to renew its vitality. He also said that the smiling Romans who bathe their hands in his blood will consider having his belongings as a treasure.

Helen appeared in front of narrator when John was thinking about the idea of writing ghost story for jenkins magazine she presented herself in pieces coming from various directions or The ghost of Helen appeared in sections before the narrator. At first, just a voice replied affirmatively when he sarcastically said that the writing business was delightful. He jumped to hear an unknown voice. He looked back and saw a figure taking shape in front of his eyes. He saw an arm coming out which later joined to the upper body with a white shirtwaist. Later, he saw the legs and a plaid skirt. In this way, she completed her entire body in bits and parts until the narrator could clearly see her fishy eyes behind the spectacles, her hair and the jaw. both ans are right .. choose one which one is liked by you. Thank you??
