निम्नलिखित गद्यांश को ध्यानपूर्वक पढ़कर इसके आधार पर सर्वाधिक उपयुक्त उत्तर वाले विकल्प चुनकर लिखिए। मानव बुद्धिशील प्राणी है। जिस विषय पर दूसरे प्राणी विचार नहीं कर सकते हैं, उन पर वह चिन्तन करता है। इसी कारण वह संसार के समस्त जीवधारियों में श्रेष्ठ माना जाता है। जहाँ एक ओर उसमें विद्या, बुद्धि, प्रेम आदि श्रेष्ठ गुण विद्यमान है, वहीं दूसरी ओर वह राग, द्वेष, हिंसा आदि बुरी प्रवृत्तियों से भी ओत-प्रोत है। श्रेष्ठ तत्त्वों का अपने अंदर विकास करने के लिए मानव को स्वावलंबी बनना पड़ेगा। दूसरों का सहारा छोड़कर केवल अपने सहारे पर जीवन बिताना स्वावलंबन कहलाता है। अपने पैरों पर खड़ा होने वाला व्यक्ति न तो समाज में निरादर पाता है और न घृणा का पात्र ही होता है। वह अपने बल पर पूर्ण विश्वास प्राप्त करता है। वास्तव में, स्वावलंबन मानव का वह गुण है जो उसे आत्मविश्वासी बनाता है। जो व्यक्ति स्वयं कर्मठ एवं स्वावलंबी नहीं है, ऐसे व्यक्ति की कोई भी सहायता नहीं करता है और ऐसे व्यक्ति का जीवन पशु से भी हेय होता है। आज के युग में उसी का जीवन सार्थक है जो स्वावलंबी है, क्योंकि स्वावलंबन जीवन का मूलमंत्र है जो लोग स्वावलंबन को एक ढकोसला तथा सिद्धांत मात्र मानते हैं, वह अपनी अल्पज्ञता का परिचय देते हैं। जो व्यक्ति इस प्रकार का विपरीत तर्क करते हैं, वे कुंठाओं से आवृत्त होते है। ऐसे लोग तर्क के आधार पर स्वावलंबी जीवों को एकांत में खड़े होने वाले अरण्य का वृक्ष मानते हैं
