- These are creeping and burrowing terrestrial animals with scales on their body. They are cold-blooded animals found in most of the warmer regions of the world.
- Their skin is dry, and rough, without any glands.
- The body is divided into head, neck, trunk, and tail.
- Few of these shed the scales on their skin as skin cast.
- The respiration takes place with the help of the lungs.
- The skull is monocondylic.
- They have two pairs of pentadactyl limbs, each bearing claws. Snakes are an exception.
- The heart is 3 chambered. However, crocodiles have a 4-chambered heart.

Rutherford's model of an atom:
1. There is a positively charged, highly densed centre in an atom called the nucleus. Nearly the whole mass of an atom resides in the nucleus.
2.The electrons revolve around the nucleus in circular path.
3. The size of the nucleus is very small compared to the size of an atom.
Bohr's model of an atom:
1.An atom is made up of 3 particles electrons, protons and neutrons. Due to the presence of equal number of electrons and protons, atom on the whole is electrically neutral.
2. The protons and neutrons are located inside the nucleus due to which nucleus is positively charged.
3. The electrons revolve around the nucleus in fixed paths called orbits or shells or energy levels. The energy levels are represented as K,L,M,N or 1,2,3,4,5,.....
4. There is a limit to the number of electrons each energy level can hold. It is given by the formula 2n^2 where n is the orbit number .
5. Each energy level is associated with fixed amount of energy, the shell nearest to the nucleus having minimum amount of energy and the one farthest having maximum energy.
6. There is no change in the energy of electrons as they keeping revolving in the same shell and the atom remains stable.

This method is used to separate the mixture of two miscible liquids where difference between their boiling points is less than 25 ºC. Also to separate a mixture of two or more miscible liquids for which the difference in boiling points is less than 25 K, fractional distillation process is used, for example, for the separation of different gases from air, different factions from petroleum products etc. The apparatus is similar to that for simple distillation, except that a fractionating column is fitted in between the distillation flask and the condenser. A simple fractionating column is a tube packed with glass beads. The beads provide surface for the vapours to cool and condense repeatedly, as shown in following figure.

Molar mass of H = 1
Molar mass of O = 16
Molar mass of C = 12
Molar mass of Water = H20 = 2*1+16 = 18 g/mol
So, 1 mole of water weighs = 18 g
which implies, 18g of water = 1 mole
THerefore, 20g of water = 20/18 = 1.11 mole

Some of the characteristics used for a hierarchical classification are:
- A eukaryotic cell has membrane-bound organelles, including a nucleus, which allow cellular processes to be carried out efficiently in isolation from each other whereas a prokaryotic cell do not have membrane bound organelles and a well developed nucleus.
- Their basic body design, whether an organism is a single celled or multicellular for division of labour.
- Do organisms produce their own food through the process of photosynthesis or get food from outside? This would make very different body designs.
- The level of organisation of their body.

Mendel experimented on a pea plant and considered 7 main contrasting traits in the plants. Then, he conducted both the experiments to determine the aforementioned inheritance laws. A brief explanation of the two experiments is given below.
Monohybrid Cross
In this experiment, Mendel took two pea plants of opposite traits (one short and one tall) and crossed them. He found the first generation offsprings were tall and called it F1 progeny. Then he crossed F1 progeny and obtained both tall and short plants in the ratio 3:1. To know more about this experiment, visit Monohybrid Cross – Inheritance Of One Gene.
Mendel even conducted this experiment with other contrasting traits like green peas vs yellow peas, round vs wrinkled, etc. In all the cases, he found that results were similar. From this, he formulated the laws of Segregation And Dominance.
Dihybrid Cross
In a dihybrid cross experiment, Mendel considered two traits, each having two alleles. He crossed wrinkled-green seed and round-yellow seeds and observed that all the first generation progeny (F1 progeny) were round-yellow. This meant that dominant traits were the round shape and yellow colour.
He then self-pollinated the F1 progeny and obtained 4 different traits wrinkled-yellow, round-yellow, wrinkled-green seeds and round-green in the ratio 9:3:3:1.

Power is defined as rate of doing work.
Power= work done/ time taken
Power = energy consumed/ timetaken
Since when work is done, an equal amount of energy is consumed.
S.I unit of power is Watt.
1 watt= 1 joule/ 1 Second.
1 watt is the power of an appliances which consumes energy at the rate of 1 joule per second.
