Water vapour diffuses faster than ethyl alcohol or wax.

Explanation:

When the matters of two different types of particles of are intermixing on their own, this is called as diffusion. The diffusion rate increases with increase in the diffusion temperature of the substance. It is a natural process. Diffusion process occur place in the “solid, liquid and gas”. Since water vapour is in the state of gas, the kinetic energy is maximum between the particles in the gases. Therefore, the movement of particles is in high speed and its movement has no fixed shape and volume. Gases diffuse faster than solid and liquid. The inter molecular space in gas is more and inter molecular forces are less.

Endosmosis: When there is passage of a fluid in this case water, from a region of lower concentration to a region of higher concentration through a semipermeable surface (the membrane of a cell), the process is known as endosmosis.

Exosmosis: Exosmosis is the passage of water through a cell membrane (semipermeable) toward a surrounding medium of lower concentration.

Therefore a cell will display endosmosis when it shrinks by losing water when placed in a water or display exosmosis when it swells up or enlargens when placed in a water.

Let us consider an object of mass m, moving along a straight line with an initial velocity u. Let us say, after a certain time t, with a constant acceleration, the final velocity becomes v.Here we see that, the initial momentum
p1 = m  × u 
The final momentum
p2 = m  × v
The change in momentum can be written as
p2 - p1 = (m  ×v)  - (m  ×u)= m (v-u)

As we know, the rate of change of momentum with respect to time is proportional to the applied force. The applied force
F∝  [m  × (v-u)]/t
or

F∝  m  × a
as acceleration (a) = rate of change of velocity with respect to time
.F= k × m  × a

s = area of the trapezium OABC = (OA + BC) X OC/2

Substituting OA = u, BC = v and OC = t,

We get

s= (u+v) t/2

From the velocity-time relation

We get

t= v - u/a

We have

s = (v + u) x (v – u)/2a

Diffusion in gas:

Diffusion takes place most rapidly in gasses.

The particles of gas have more kinetic energy due to that they move with high speed. Because of the movement of particles with high speed gas diffuses most rapidly.

Example: Mixing of gases in air

Diffusion in liquid:

Diffusion takes place in liquids. The rate of diffusion is less in liquid than that of gases.

The particles of liquid have enough movement because of kinetic energy for diffusion. When two liquids are kept together they are mixed because of the diffusion.

For example; When salt solution is kept in water this makes whole the solution salty after some time. This happens because of diffusion in liquids.

Diffusion in solid:

Diffusion takes place with slowest rate in the case of solids. The rate of diffusion is almost negligible in solids.

Since the particles of solid have lowest kinetic energy so they do not move. Hence, diffusion takes a long time in the case of solid.

Example – Some time we observe that the marks of chalk on the black board could not be wiped out easily after a long time. This happens because of the diffusion of particles of chalks with the particles of black-board and marks of chalk could not be wiped out.

Impulse = change in linear momentum .

Initial momentum of ball= mu
=0.15 × 12 =1.8 kg.m/sec

Final momentum of ball = -mu
= - 0.15 × 12 = -1.8 kgm/sec
Change in momentum of ball =final -initial
= -1.8 -1.8 = -3.6 kgm/sec

So,
Change in momentum of bat = -change in momentum of ball

Change in momentum of bat =3.6 kgm/s

Impulse imparted to ball =change in momentum of bat = 3.6 kgm/s
