If we decide that the downward direction is positive (that is displacement, velocity etc.is +ve in the downward direction) then the direction opposite to it is negative.

If we drop a ball from roof then

  • when the ball falls down it has +ve velocity

∴ the product m.v that is momentum is positive (mass cannot be negative)

  •  after the bounce, the velocity is in the negative direction

∴ product m.v that is momentum is negative

Thankyou for asking this question as this is one of the main problems faced by students during examinations. As the time progresses towards exams, we get caught by the fear as how we will solve the question paper in prescribed time limit.

For this, firstly solve sample papers and stick to the word limit. You will only get marks for writing the right answer not a long answer. Do not repeat the points in your answer or write the extra stuff which is not even asked. It won't fetch you any extra marks but would definitely waste your time. Practice sample papers and after that look up the solutions and compare that have you written the desired pointsonly. Eliminate the unwanted part.

By this, you will feel confident and will be able to score well in your examinations. All the best!

Let side of a cube be a, then surface area of cube = 6a2

Now, new side of cube = a + 50% of a = 1.5a

New Surface area = 6 x (1.5a)2 = 13.5a2

Increase in Surface area = 13.5a2 - 6a2 = 7.5a2

Percentage Increase in Surface area = 7.5a2/6a2 x 100 = 125%
