Margie hated school because there was no place for fun in that school. She didn't have any classmates and was confined to her home only. Therefore, it was totally monotonous. The part Margie hated most was the slot where she had to put homework and test papers. Her detest for school increased more and more when she found herself performing worse and worse in the test of Geography which mechanical teacher had been giving her.
She thought that the old kind of school must have been fun and she called it "funny schools" as she imagined all the kids from the entire neighbourhood coming together, laughing and shouting in the schoolyard. She imagined that they would sit together in the classroom and go home together at the end of the day. They would learn the same things and could help one another with the homework and talk about it. Also, the teachers were people. All these aspects made her believe that the old kind of school must have been fun. Therefore she was not even able to concentrate on her lesson of fraction taught by the mechanical teacher.
